WHY TAKE DANCE?
Studies have shown that students who dance not only have better co-ordination and posture, they do better in math and language skills at school. Dance encourages a life long commitment to exercise and good eating habits. It also provides a wonderful social outlet where children learn to co-operate and work in a group. Most importantly, it teaches a child to seek beauty in the world and in life.
Tiny 2's(mommy & me) - little ones' ages 18-30months can begin to experience to fun of dance class with mom. This 45min. class is your child's first introduction to the world of music and movement. We will focus on simple developmental activities, socialization and most importantly FUN! The last 15mins. are "free" activities for children while moms can interact with each other.
Tiny & Talented - Creative movement and pre-ballet includes large muscle motor skills, musicality, social interaction and developmental skills. Children learn dance sequences and routines set to age appropriate music. Lots of colorful props help keep them excited about dance. Our first "big girl" dance class. Moms are encouraged to stay close by and observe through the viewing window for the first few lessons.
Princess Ballet - A pre-ballet class which teaches the basic positions of arms and feet, how to stretch through the feet to achieve a good point, the correct way to dance on toes and much more. Children learn accompanied by ballet music created especially for the very young. This class includes large muscle activities which allows for lots of movement and fun.
Starlets - A combination ballet/tap class to help children decide which dance style is their favorite. In addition to pre-ballet, children will have 20 minutes of basic tap dancing. Heel drops, toe tips, shuffles and flaps will be taught. One routine, either ballet or tap will be performed in the June production.
PB3/Tap - A combination class with 30 minutes of ballet and 30 minutes of tap dancing. 1st & 2nd graders are building on the skills they learned in "starlets" or "princess ballet", adding to their overall knowledge of dance. Beginners will be able to handle the curriculum as well because new skills are taught in a simple step by step progression. You'll be surprised how much fun they have and how fast they'll learn.
Beginning Ballet - Created for 2nd graders and older who are beginners but don't want to take class with the babies. Learn the 5 positions, ballet posture, balancing on demi-pointe and spotting for successful turns. Ballet is the basis for all the other dance forms. If you want to be a good dancer, study ballet.
Ballet For Dancers - This class is specifically designed to work on the skills needed in Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap and Broadway class. Whether you love ballet or hate it, you need some technique to advance to higher classes. Think of this as a "technique" class where you will get the skills and strength needed for leaps, turns, layouts and more.
Sassy Feet - Tap dancing is so much fun for kids! Where else are you encouraged to make noise for the fun of it. This class explores tap basics such as flaps, ball changes, shuffles, simple tap turns, time steps and lots more. By the end of the year children will be able to incorporate these skills into a great routine. A pre-requisite for being included in our fabulous production tap number.
Jazz Kids - Jamtastic - Cool Moves - These classes are formed by age and ability level. All Jazz classes include a jazz warm-up, strength and stretching exercises, across the floor progressions and choreography. Energetic and fun, jazz classes are always a hit.
Hip Hop and Hip Hop 2 - One style of jazz which has become very popular is Hip Hop and the kids love it. Consider one of these classes as an addition to your core dance classes. Hip Hop teaches beginning moves which are simple and easy to learn. The routine will be high energy with lots of repeats and interesting staging.
Hip Hop 2 is a continuation of the beginning class. Moves become more complicated and music will be faster. Though Hip Hop is lots of fun and great exercise, there is less overall technique taught in these classes and more choreography. A great addition to your dance education.
Broadway - The class for kids who love musicals and want to sing and dance their way to becoming a star. Music from soundtracks of stage and movie musicals are used to recreate a very "showbiz" routine. Props are often used to add interest.
Broadway 2 is even more fun, because it involves dancers who are a little older and more capable. Here is where you see our wonderful "Rockettes" style kick lines, peel offs, formations and staging. Broadway class teaches kids how to make a routine really entertaining and alive. This is where performing confidence is built.
